GARLAND COUNTY GROUND DOES NOT FORGIVE GUESSWORK.
The Bismarck soils that cover most of these hills sit on tilted shale, and workable ground can end 10 inches down with 35 to 85 percent rock below that. Slopes on the same parcel swing from gentle to 60 percent. That mix decides where a pad can go, how a driveway has to climb, and whether a trench needs a rock bucket or a hammer. We look at all of it first, because a site plan drawn without it gets rewritten in the field at your expense.

We shape spoil into something that drains, blend cut banks back into the slope, seed or matt where the county expects cover, and haul off what does not belong on the property. Land Clearing Services
Overgrown acreage comes back to usable ground: undergrowth, saplings, vines, fence lines, and stumps removed to the depth your next step needs, with the debris burned, chipped, or hauled off by agreement.
Excavation Services
Digging in Ouachita rock takes more than a bucket. Basements, footings, ponds, cuts, and fills get done with the machine and attachment the material calls for, and spoil placed where it will not wash.
Site Preparation Services
Everything a builder needs before the first stake: brush off, topsoil stripped and stockpiled, pad cut to elevation, compaction checked, and access built so concrete trucks reach the forms without sinking.
Grading and Leveling
Ground is shaped so water leaves on purpose. Yards, pads, lots, and drives get the fall they need, starting with the 6 inches over 10 feet a foundation is supposed to have.
Dirt Work and Earthmoving
Material moved once, to the right place. Cut and fill balanced on site where it can be, imported or exported where it cannot, and compacted in lifts instead of dumped and hoped for.
Tree Removal Services
Problem trees come down in a planned direction, including leaners over roofs, storm-damaged trunks, and whole stands inside a clearing footprint. Stumps ground or dug, wood cut to length or removed.

Most of what people ask us comes down to sequence, cost drivers, and what the ground will allow. Here are the questions that come up most often before a project starts.
What is the difference between land clearing and forestry mulching?
Clearing removes vegetation and hauls or burns it off. Mulching grinds the same growth in place and leaves it as a ground cover. Clearing wins when you need bare dirt; mulching wins when you want the soil protected.
Do I need a permit to clear or grade land in Garland County?
Garland County requires a stormwater permit once you disturb one acre, and for any subdivision or commercial site regardless of size. A pollution prevention plan goes to the Environmental Inspections Division before dirt moves. We build that into the schedule.
How long does it take to clear an acre of land?
Light undergrowth on flat ground can go in a day. An acre of mature timber on a hillside with stump removal often runs three to five. Slope, stem size, debris handling, and access drive the number more than acreage does.
What is the difference between excavation and grading?
Excavation removes material and changes elevation; grading shapes what is left so water runs where you want it. Most projects use both, with excavation cutting the rough shape and grading setting the final surface and slope before anything is poured.
